A tough part of the design process was the uppercases design. Because of the lack of specific historical structure of the kind of design we were aiming for we had to imagine new way to display these glyphs.

The design was inspired by many different models not even necessarily rotunda, but fraktur as well. Improvisation was also a big part of the process of course. The design process felt like working on a puzzle, a lot of time spent on finding the missing pieces of that gigantic picture to find the most elegant and strong shapes we could think of.

We tested many different structures. This approach gave us the opportunity to design a large set of alternate styles for each letters. This allows Emeritus to be a playful font to work withl. The layout possibility with that amount of detail is nearly infinite.

In the end Emeritus is a contemporary gothic typeface designed straight from the blaze for audacious and radical display use. It will makes your words look beautifully powerful in any design you set.
